At Manhattan Aquarium
Company, we hold to our strong environmental ethics by educating our
customers, encouraging adoption of animals from shelters and recycling.
We also discourage the sale of some animals because they do not make
good pets for everyone. We try to be responsible in what we do. We
truly love animals and want all of ours to find great homes.
- At MAC we want our customers to have a
positive experience with their pets. Our knowledgeable staff can help
you choose what type of pet will be best for you and teach you how to
care for it properly. We are truly experts in regard to animal care,
especially fish. When you buy an aquarium from us, we will help you
understand the biology of it in simple terms and tell you which fish
will be best to add and when to add them. We offer free water testing
to aid you in your fish purchasing.
- MAC doesn't carry any puppies or kittens.
Instead, we support the local animal shelter in several ways. We have
donated lots of merchandise and money to help keep the animals at the
shelter healthy and happy. We offer customers a free bag of the best
pet food when they adopt in addition to deep discounts on all the
supplies needed for the new pet. We also have pictures of animals
available for adoption in our store. We highly encourage you to spay or
neuter your pets.
- MAC makes the trip to the recycling center
every week to dispose of cardboard and all our other recycleable
materials. We also ask our customers to bring in their plastic grocery
bags, which we will re-use to prevent them from going into landfills.
We have not purchased any plastic bags since we opened in November
2003!.
- There are many animals available at pet
stores that don't make good pets. These animals often get passed around
from person to person and die either from neglect or abuse. Now, I need
to say that this doesn't always happen - there are some people who will
keep exotic animals for their entire life span and take good care of
them. The problem is that this is extremely rare. A good example of
animal that doesn't make a good pet are iguanas. Iguanas are really
cute when they are little, but they grow up to be large aggressive
lizards that can harm their handler. They require more care than most
people realize and usually die from improper nutrition (neglect).
